Grand Junction City Council District A

I am Sandra Weckerly, running for City council District A. I have lived the American Dream. I was raised by a single mom with 4 siblings and we struggled when I was young. I watched my mom move past food stamps and welfare into home ownership. She taught me that education and hard work were opportunities that you have to take to get where you want to go in this country. I’ve worked since I was 15 years old and supported myself through college. My husband and I have built what we have and we taught our 5 children the same things my mom taught me. In 30 years of volunteering on nonprofit and government boards, I have never used my position to better myself financially or in any other way. Accusations of conflicts are simply false. Every single person running for any office has potential conflicts. I am the only candidate in my race who has a proven track record of honoring ethics rules and calling out conflicts and recusing myself from related votes.
Vote for THE most experienced community leader in my race - vote for me, Sandra Weckerly District A.
My husband of 26 years, David and I have five children who have all attended CMU. We love living in Grand Junction and are working to create businesses and opportunities
that will help our Grand Valley be a great place to live and work. I am a business owner and a JOB CREATOR - not just an investor. My three businesses employ over 100
employees and serve over 100,000 customers annually, all of which I manage. I have been active and engaged in the Chamber of Commerce for seven years, bringing jobs to
GJ. I partner with local businesses and nonprofits, and consistently serve on at least three volunteer boards/positions to better our community.
The cost of opening new businesses and the lack of affordable housing for employees are equally challenging. Traffic Impact Fees and commercial Planning Clearance
Fees are prohibitive for new businesses to open. AND Building Fees, Impact Fees and residential Planning Clearance Fees are driving the lack of affordable housing
for our current residents and for businesses trying to recruit new employees. I will work hard to restructure/reduce City fees AND offer solutions like financial incentives attached to deed restrictions to address affordable housing. The City’s most important role should be to provide Core Services and then stay out of the way and provide a business-friendly environment by limiting costs and regulation as much as possible.
Sandra Weckerly has formally announced that she is running for the District A seat on the Grand Junction City Council this spring. Sandra currently owns multiple businesses in town and recently celebrated the opening of Mama Ree’s Pizza + Brewhouse on the North Avenue Corridor.
Sandra has been involved in business ownership and job creation in the Grand Valley for 7 years. She and her husband David have raised five children, all of whom have graduated from or are attending Colorado Mesa University.
Along with her real estate and business experience, Sandra’s service on the Grand Junction Planning Commission has helped to broaden her understanding of the policies, codes, and development processes surrounding land use in our city.
Additionally, Sandra’s service on the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Board has given her an opportunity to listen to the concerns of local business leaders and be a part of the discussions to find solutions to the many issues which face our business community.
Sandra stated, “We are committed to this community and we are invested creating jobs in this community. If elected I will work to elevate our economic development/jobs and public safety operations while also valuing transparency.”
